The McKenzie method was originally recommended to me by a physical therapist during my hospitalization for a back problem. That was nearly 20 years ago. The techniques described in this book, helped me to have a productive work life, and continues to be useful. I return to the practice when I get sloppy managing my back and posture. I highly recommend the contents of this book to anyone struggling with back pain. Read the book carefully and follow the directions carefully. If things are not quickly resolving in the manner described in the book, consult your physician right away. Don’t just jump to the page that applies to what you think you need. Read the book thoroughly and follow the instructions carefully. Again, the McKenzie Method has been very useful to me for lower back difficulties, and was introduced to me in conjunction with a physical therapist and neurosurgeon, who wanted me to apply these principles and exercises. Why wait until you are in the hospital with emergency treatment to decide to take care of your self?

Just wanted to share that I have been pretty much bed ridden for months, hunched over unable to walk. I did physical therapy for 2 months and it made me way worse. I have never been so depressed in my life. I couldn’t find anything about how someone had been healed from how severe my bulging discs were without surgery and the steroid shots. About 4 days ago (I was six months in) I read 7 steps to a pain free life by Robin Mackenzie and it changed my life! I have been walking with a hunch when I do walk and tilting almost entirely to the right. I couldn’t walk more than 30seconds-to a minute straight without sitting down or stopping .After 1 day of exercises I was able to stand fully straight for the first time in 6 months. And walk distance with a straight back. And 2 days in I just kept going, same as the day before. I am now 3 days in standing fully upright and not tilting to the right! My entire upper body was leaning to the right and now I am upright. It’s literally insane. I have to just share with someone because I can’t believe it, my next hope was surgery for my Dr. and I’m already getting excision surgery for endometriosis next month. I’m so thankful and completely shocked 3 days in what a godsend. If anyone is going through this and can’t drive can’t walk please read this book. 3 days in and I’m fully walking upright. I missed out so much of my life and went through months of pain and one day of exercises completely changed everything. Please read that book if you want your life back. I didn’t even think it would help me because I was 6 months in and only getting worse. Even reading I had what was considered acute pain that may not respond to exercises and I pressed on. I’m only through the first 3 out of 7 exercises and I’m feeling a million times better. My sciatica pain went from 8-910 to a 3/10. And the pain is starting to centralize in my back. I can drive without crying or groaning in agony. Just wanted to share my story and provide some light at the end of the tunnel for people.

I’ve had next tension and pain since I graduated from college (and THAT was awhile ago!) I’ve only been doing the neck exercises for a couple of days and my neck is already much looser and happier : ) It’s easier to turn my head when I’m backing up my car. I don’t wake up feeling like my left neck and shoulder are encased in concrete. This is pretty amazing! Great book.
